Lacks any insight into the characters involved, and surely would have the late Princess of Wales rolling in her grave.. While Thomas fans will regret seeing their literary hero reduced to a generic drunk, even those awaiting the aforementioned bathtub scene will find it barely worth the effort.. If ever there was a film that deserved to get the proverbial bump from Oscar, this is it. Rarely has any film so focused on death felt so vibrantly alive.. . For all its vivid evocation of its characters...
